some time ago in a post I talked about Irena Sendler ( here ) Polish nurse who saved many Jewish children. Well, today I just do my small personal tribute to another great person in general is largely unknown but whose humanitarian actions earned him the nickname "The angel of Budapest English." I think and I commented that the Holocaust perpetrated by the Nazis against the Jews, is, from my point of view the most horrible crime against humanity that has ever taken place, we must not forget that it is estimated that killed about one million children. Thankfully, between barbarity and evil has always been good people who restore our faith in human beings.
Angel Sanz Briz (Zaragoza 1910 - Rome 1980) was a English diplomat in Budapest when Hitler set out to exterminate the Hungarian Jews. Horrified by the atrocities that the Nazis perpetrated against these people devised a clever system to save all he could. Initially asked for allowed out of the country's Sephardic Jews, descendants of those who expelled the Catholic Kings, giving them English passports. Thanks to a generous financial reward sent to Eichmann, Hitler ruled in Hungary, he was granted permission to issue passports to 200 Jews, who were what was supposed Sephardic origin. Two hundred were too few for the barbarity that was being committed and Sanz Briz well understood. Then he ordered that no passports are sold with a larger number of 200 and what he was doing is changing the serial numbers. As he ran the risk of a SS officer arches its two Jews with the same passport number rented several houses and placing them the poster of "English Legation, used them shelter until he could send them to countries where they would be safe.
With this trick managed to save about 5200 Jews, 4000 more than the famous Oscar Schindler.
In 1991 he was awarded the title of "Righteous Among the Nations" by registering their name in the Holocaust Memorial.
